ALERT!!!

“College Knowledge Fridays”

In order to promote college and career readiness, the Knights will be implementing “College Knowledge Fridays”. Each week during morning announcements, one of our student announcers will highlight a college on display from one of our classrooms.

College Knowledge for:University of Nevada, Las Vegas

University of Nevada, Las Vegas, also known as UNLV, is located in Paradise, Nevada, approximately 1.6 miles from the Las Vegas Strip.  This university is known for their emphasis in research through science and technology, business management, and law.  This campus also holds Nevada’s only dental school, the UNLV School of Dental Medicine.  Their mascot is Hey Reb, a “Rebel” wearing a southern Confederate uniform to rival the northern University of Nevada, Reno.  Notable alumni are former NBA and NFL players as well as TV personalities such as Guy Fieri, Greg Anthony, Randall Cunningham and Jimmy Kimmel.

PEP

Leona Jackson Middle School was happy to welcome the mayor of Paramount, Daryl Hofmeyer, PUSD Supt of Schools, Ruth Perez, and PUSD Board President, Tony Pena.  They were here to present Mr. Sierra and his team with a lunch for their efforts in raising over $10,000 in the recent PEP Scholarship Fundraiser.  Money collected goes to help Paramount High School seniors toward scholarship for colleges. Mr. Sierra and his team were the top money collectors for our school in a very spirited and fun March Madness competition between the teachers and their classrooms.

It is our great pleasure to introduce you to our new FieldTurf field. This high performance artificial turf system is designed to deliver maximum performance and playability to our community. The addition of the FieldTurf field will allow us to reduce water usage and drastically increase the available playable hours for our athletes. Per the manufacturer, long term studies have also shown that this high quality FieldTurf system can help reduce player injuries relative to natural grass. We are excited to have this new surface and know that it will serve our community well for the years to come. This field is our field, so we hope that all field users treat the field with the utmost respect and care by following the rules below.

  • NO Food
  • NO Sunflower Seeds

Paramount Unified School District is a Safe Haven for Students of All Backgrounds (Click Here)

In our diverse community, we recognize that many students and their families are struggling with questions, concerns and fears about the recent immigration enforcement actions taking place across the state. We work very hard to make our schools safe spaces for learning for every one of our students. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring that a child’s race, religion, or immigration status do not create any barriers to their education.

On February 15, 2017, our Board of Education adopted a resolution indicating that our schools are a safe haven for all students and their families regardless of their race, religion, gender, immigration status, etc. By passing this resolution, our district joins several others across the State of California that have already done so on the recommendation of State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson.
The Paramount Unified School District embraces the diversity of its students, parents, and community, and views this as something that makes us stronger. This resolution is just one sign of our commitment to all of our students, parents, and community members.

Paramount Air Monitoring Activities (Click Here)

The Paramount USD administration is working with the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) to provide our district direction and information regarding the current Chromium 6 investigative process in the City of Paramount. The SCAQMD is the regulatory organization in charge of the air quality in the area, as well as the agency providing information regarding the current investigation.

The SCAQMD has indicated to our district that their action plan includes the placement of testing equipment in district property.   School district staff will work with the SCAQMD regarding location and timing of the placement and will provide access to their personnel so that they can complete the testing equipment placement.  Additionally, we have asked for information regarding their reports and findings that can be shared with our district community, and they have directed us to their web site, which includes web pages dedicated to information about their air monitoring activities in the City of Paramount, their meetings and processes.
