“College Knowledge Fridays”

In order to promote college and career readiness, the Knights will be implementing “College Knowledge Fridays”. Each week during morning announcements, one of our student announcers will highlight a college on display from one of our classrooms.

College Knowledge for

The University of Hawaii, The University of Pennsylvania and California State Polytechnic University

The University of Hawaii is a college founded in 1907.  The University of Hawaii has a total of three universities and seven community colleges that you can attend.  The “Rainbow Warriors” are best known for their science programs that focus on marine life, geology, and botany.  The studies done through the University of Hawaii have saved many marine mammals and plants from going extinct.  President Barrack Obama’s parents, Barrack Obama Senior and S. Ann Dunham both attended and graduated from the Manao campus.

The University of Pennsylvania, located in Philadelphia, was founded by Benjamin Franklin.  The Penn Quakers have more than 25NCAA Division 1 sports that compete in the Ivy League, and are noted for successful basketball and lacrosse teams.  Penn’s highly ranked graduate programs include its Wharton School of Business and School of Engineering.  Notable Penn alumni include Tesla and Space X Founder Elon Musk, “Hunger Games” and “Pitch Perfect” actress Elizabeth Banks, singer John Legend, Dr. Oz, and billionaire investor Warren Buffett.

California State Polytechnic University, Pomona is one of two polytechnics universities in the CSU system.  Not to be confused with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cal Poly Pomona is located in Pomona, California.  Cal Poly is known for their academic programs in Agriculture, Engineering, Business Management and Hospitality Management.  Cal poly is the only Southern California university to grant a bachelor’s and master’s in Agriculture.  It also grows and sells fresh produce in their Cal Poly Farm Store at Kellogg Ranch located near the campus.  The mascot is Billy Bronco who wears the school’s colors green and gold.  Fun facts, Cal Poly is home to about 100 purebred Arabian horses and participates annually in the Rose Parade.  Famous alumni include actor Forest Whitaker and L.A. Supervisor Hilda Solis.

Per the manufacturer, long term studies have also shown that this high quality FieldTurf system can help reduce player injuries relative to natural grass. We are excited to have this new surface and know that it will serve our community well for the years to come. This field is our field, so we hope that all field users treat the field with the utmost respect and care by following the rules below.

The Paramount USD administration is working with the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) to provide our district direction and information regarding the current Chromium 6 investigative process in the City of Paramount. The SCAQMD is the regulatory organization in charge of the air quality in the area, as well as the agency providing information regarding the current investigation.

The SCAQMD has indicated to our district that their action plan includes the placement of testing equipment in district property.   School district staff will work with the SCAQMD regarding location and timing of the placement and will provide access to their personnel so that they can complete the testing equipment placement.  Additionally, we have asked for information regarding their reports and findings that can be shared with our district community, and they have directed us to their web site, which includes web pages dedicated to information about their air monitoring activities in the City of Paramount, their meetings and processes. Paramount - Ongoing Air Monitoring Activities link

CHAMPS - 5 Years in a ROW!! Battle of the Books

BOB Winners.jpg

Leona Jackson Middle School was happy to welcome the mayor of Paramount, Daryl Hofmeyer, PUSD Supt of Schools, Ruth Perez, and PUSD Board President, Tony Pena.  They were here to present Mr. Sierra and his team with a lunch for their efforts in raising over $10,000 in the recent PEP Scholarship Fundraiser.  Money collected goes to help Paramount High School seniors toward scholarship for colleges. Mr. Sierra and his team were the top money collectors for our school in a very spirited and fun March Madness competition between the teachers and their classrooms.
