Get Your A's Up: Literacy Academy
Jackson Middle School is teaming up with UCLA to launch our 1st annual Get Your A's Up: Literacy Academy for all of our 6th-8th grade African American students. This is a six-week enrichment program to help raise student achievement and assist students in gaining the critical literacy skills needed for high school and college.
The program culminates with a field trip to UCLA, as well as literature celebrations where students share their insights and growth with family, teachers and special guests. Students will also receive a certificate of completion from UCLA.
Dear Parents/Guardians, Students, and Community Members,
Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! It continues to be an honor and privilege to serve as the principal of Leona Jackson School. I hope you have enjoyed your summer break spending time with your loved ones and creating memories to last a lifetime.
I am looking forward to our continued partnership to ensure our children receive a quality education that prepares them to be life-long learners, problem solvers, and innovative thinkers. In addition to academics, one of our primary goals is to ensure students feel safe and connected to our school. We ask that you encourage your child to get involved and participate in the many activities we will have available this year. Knowing that parent involvement is critical in the educational process, we hope that you will join us throughout the year and take an active role in your child’s education. There will be many opportunities for you to get involved, such as PTSA, School Site Council (SSC), English Learners Advisory Council (ELAC), parent/teacher meetings, monthly parent workshops, and school-wide celebrations. Our goal is to work closely with all stakeholders in order to best meet the needs of each and every child.
My staff and I look forward to working with you as the year progresses. We appreciate your support and look forward to an exciting new school year! Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions and/or concerns.
Jackson's New Field
It is our great pleasure to introduce you to our new FieldTurf field. This high performance artificial turf system is designed to deliver maximum performance and playability to our community. The addition of the FieldTurf field will allow us to reduce water usage and drastically increase the available playable hours for our athletes. Per the manufacturer, long term studies have also shown that this high quality FieldTurf system can help reduce player injuries relative to natural grass. We are excited to have this new surface and know that it will serve our community well for the years to come. This field is our field, so we hope that all field users treat the field with the utmost respect and care by following the rules below.
In addition, flavored and/or colored drinks will NOT be allowed on campus. Students may only bring water to school.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
